FREQUENCY EFFECT
Frequency Effect is the modern electronic darkwave band and remix/DJ duo Andy & Annie Skinner, also known as A-Squared Industries.
Frequency Effect is the next stage in the musical career of A-Squared, making darkwave electronic music using Moog, Korg, Roland, Behringer, Arp, and Teenage Engineering synthesizers, Electron, Moog, and Roland drum machines, Gibson guitars, and the Ableton Push. 2023 will see the release of several singles, along with various remix projects and DJ edits of darkwave, post-punk, and industrial hits for the dance floor. A full-length album will follow.
Based in Indianapolis, Andy & Annie have spent years as DJs and promoters, performing at monthly dance nights SPELLBOUND and WE ARE YOUR FRIENDS, and former/retired residencies REAL TALK!, LET GO!, MANIC MONDAY, and PUB LIFE. Their monthly DJ night REAL TALK! was honored as one of the 10-best DJ dance nights in America by DJ Magazine! Spellbound is known as Indiana’s biggest and best darkwave monthly, drawing guests as renowned and diverse as Lol Tolhurst of The Cure, Martin Atkins of NIN, Ministry and Pigface, Ellie Herring, Craig Pfunder of VHS or Beta, and many more.
As DJs they have shared the stage with artists Z-Trip, Aesop Rock, Flosstradamus, Die Antwoord, DJ Gant Man, LTJ Bukem, LModeselektor, Dani Deahl, Slater Hogan, Action Jackson, and many more. They have performed at the Indy 500 Snake Pit 3 times, The IDentity Electronic Music Festival, Wheel House Electronic Music Festival, WARM Festival and have toured with the Adult Swim Network Carnival Tour. They were voted "Best DJs" by readers of NUVO Newsweekly in the 2012 NUVO Best Of Indy Reader's Poll.
Andy & Annie also own Indianapolis' largest independent record store, Indy CD & Vinyl. The store has won "Best Record Store" in the NUVO Best Of Indy Readers Poll, "Best Record Store" in the Indianapolis Star "Best Things" Readers Poll, and "Best Record Store" in the CityVoter A-List Poll.
As promoters they have booked and promoted over a thousand concerts and events featuring national recording artists, from All Your Sisters to Odonis Odonis, Death Cab For Cutie to Queens Of The Stone Age, from The Hives to Interpol, from Chasms to Minuit Machine, from Cut Copy to GWAR, from TV On The Radio to Chelsea Wolfe and Ministry.
Andy & Annie serve on the Advisory Board of The Museum of Post-Punk & Industrial Music in Chicago, curated and run by Martin Atkins.
